Two Desperados is a mobile game development company based in Serbia. Player-centric, led by innovation and focused on technology, Two Desperados explores the usage of artificial intelligence in the gaming industry.
THE PROBLEM
Two Desperados saw great success for their marble shooter games, Woka Woka, Viola’s Quest and NoNo Crossing, which has garnered 30 million players worldwide. As part of expanding their portfolio of games, they had ambitious plans to scale their team.
However, Serbia’s small local talent pool meant they had to look overseas to find the senior talent they needed to take their business to the next level. Since they had no suitable entities outside of Serbia, the team first considered relocating talent – but quickly came to realize the exorbitant cost and complex logistics involved.
The negotiation time and costs would have been huge, we just didn’t have those types of resources. Also, not everyone is willing to relocate immediately and we simply realized it is a lot of logistics and a lot of risks.

THE SOLUTION
At this point, the Two Desperados team discovered Employer of Record (EOR) services. An EOR could assume the responsibilities of hiring, managing payroll and compliance with local employment laws on their behalf in new markets, and meant they didn’t have to open costly local entities themselves.
The door to global talent pools was open – but Two Desperados’ experience with their first few EOR partners didn’t go to plan, especially when it came to the experience of their remote employees.
